Three COVID-19 Grants for Veterans

State of MN Financial Assistance

Disaster Relief and Special Needs Grants for Veterans
Distance-learning Support Grant for Families

We want to help you take advantage of the special appropriation the Minnesota State Legislature voted to funded to assist Veterans and their families who may be financially impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

There are three programs for eligible MN veterans and surviving spouses. We've attached a really useful overview doc for each below. You can ask your Eagle Group coach to walk you through it. Check out the MDVA website for more info, or contact your county CVSO for help filing an application. Here's a link to find your local CVSO.

1. COVID-19 Disaster Relief Grant offsets negative effects and economic impact COVID-19 has had on veterans and their families by providing a one-time financial relief grant in the amount of $1,000. Eligible applicants must have had their finances negatively impacted by COVID-19 in one of the broad list of criteria noted in the COVID-19 Disaster Relief Grant overview document you can find here.

2. COVID-19 Special Needs Grant provides a one-time financial grant, up to $3,000, to a veteran or surviving spouse who needs assistance due to a COVID-19 related event. Financial assistance is paid directly to the creditor or debtor, and payment may be requested in more than one area including: Rent/Mortgage/Contract for Deed; Security Deposits; Property Taxes; Home Repairs (related to habitability); Utility Bills; Medical Bills; Furnace/AC Unit; Auto Repairs; Auto Insurance; Auto Loan Payments; Major Appliances. View the COVID-19 Special Needs Grant overview document here.

3. COVID-19 K-12 Distance Learning Support Grant. If your family is financially impacted ngatively because of implementing your school district's distance learning or hybrid learning plan, this program provides a one-time grant of $3,000. Applicants must demonstrate the financial impact on or after 30 AUG 20, and be a veteran or surviving spouse not remarried. View the COVID-19 Distance Learning overview document here.
