BACKGROUND
The FastTrac program offerings have been developed by the Kauffman Foundation in Kansas City. The Kauffman Foundation is one of the largest foundations in the United States with a mission of supporting education and entrepreneurship. FastTrac is structured to include guest speakers with outcomes for entrepreneurs that include:
  • an improved elevator pitch
  • business financing presentation (equity or debt), and
  • business plan.
Since its launch in 1993, over 350,000 people have completed FastTrac offerings in 18 countries. Fifty-nine percent of participants go on to start or expand their businesses, employing, on average, four full time and two part-time positions.

The Kauffman Foundation has promoted specific veterans offerings:
  1. From 2012 to 2015, the Kauffman Foundation, through the financial support of Accenture, offered FastTrac programs to 300 veterans in seven locations:  Dover, DE; Fayetteville, NC; Houston, TX; Jacksonville, NC; Kansas City, MO; San Diego, CA; and Washington DC.
  2. The Center for Transitional Leadership provides FastTrac training to military and veteran personnel in Fort Leavenworth, KA, to assist them in their transitioning from military service to private sector employment.
  3. From these initiatives, the Kauffman Foundation has created a supplementary manual for veterans that is used by FastTrac affiliates.
