As we approach Veterans Day 2022 it has become cliché to say that any event, date or experience in the shadow of Covid-19 is unlike any other. This does not change, however, certain truths that stand the test of time. Truths that are etched in stone and form a bedrock of commitment to our nation.

That commitment is demonstrated by veterans like you – those that chose, in most cases, of their own free will to voluntarily give back to the United States of America with the ultimate level of collateral. That collateral – up to and including one’s life on behalf of America – is something that is difficult for me to valuate in words. It signifies and says so much about all of you not just as individuals, but as a unit.

We all come from different backgrounds, cultures and creeds, yet came together with a common commitment to be part of something greater than ourselves and our individual experiences. To me, this is one of the most amazing qualities of veterans. Your ability to unite, focus and carry out a mission in a selfless manner, all while looking out for your fellow brothers and sisters on your right and left flanks, speaks volumes about the very best aspects of our great nation.

On this Veterans Day, please know how much you are valued and appreciated for all that you are and do. On a personal note, it is such a distinct honor and privilege to be associated with you all, and something I will never take for granted.

On behalf of a grateful nation and from me personally, thank you for your dedication, commitment and service to keeping all of us safe. Happy Veterans Day.
